(Eric sent this to me off-list - but this is of general interest, so I am replying to freedos-user instead)

I have now mirrored VGA Paint 386 to the FreeDOS Files Archive at Ibiblio. You can find it here: https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/util/user/vgapaint/ > Looking at the list on BTTR, there would be many more, > but I barely see any which are explicitly listed as > being open source? > > http://www.bttr-software.de/freesoft/graphics.htm > > We have a DOS port of the command line tools, but > not of the GUI tools, of Image Magick, so that is > still not suitable as image viewer. > I downloaded all the programs linked on graphics.html that looked like they were graphics viewers. I tried to get these files: http://www.pictview.com/pictview.zip http://hplx.pgdn.de/lxpic.zip http://www.pictview.com/showjpg.zip http://www.cs.unibo.it/~rossi/pixview/pixv23.zip ftp://ftp.sac.sk/sac/graph/lwhiz.zip ftp://ftp.sac.sk/sac/graph/ombra722.zip ftp://ftp.sac.sk/sac/graph/disp189a.zip ftp://ftp.sac.sk/sac/graph/qpng17e.zip ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/graphics/jpeg6a32.zip ..but I was only able to successfully download these files: lxpic.zip pictview.zip pixv23.zip showjpg.zip None of those provide source code, unfortunately. I don't use paint programs, so I don't know which of the open source paint programs is best. I suggest not having a lot of duplicate programs in the FreeDOS distribution - the CD is already very big. Has anyone used the open source paint programs? Which would you recommend? Eric mentioned: * GrafX2 — 256-color bitmap painting program. linked at http://www.bttr-software.de/freesoft/graphics.htm * OGE (Orfelyusuv Graficky Editor) — 256-color bitmap painting program. also linked at http://www.bttr-software.de/freesoft/graphics.htm * VGA Paint 386 at http://www.bttr-software.de/products/vp386/ and now mirrored at https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/util/user/vgapaint/ We also have: * Paint2 at https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/util/user/paint2/ Jim _______________________________________________ Freedos-user mailing list Freedos-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/freedos-user
