Hi Ralf!

After using FDISK (with described problems) and
rebooting and then using FORMAT, you say you were
unable to run the FDIMPLES tool to install further:
Correct. Nor could I copy and extract any of the packages manually

Your A: (and B: as mirror) were the virtual boot
floppy, C: etc. were the harddisk, as far as
formatted, F: was a mostly empty RAMDISK: To me
this sounds as if the CD/DVD driver has failed
to load for you.
I don't see any attempt even to try and install a CD ROM driver...

This leads to the question: Has it worked at any
earlier point? Or were FDISK and FORMAT etc. all
part of the boot "floppy"?
I am pretty sure that I tried the same procedure when I installed FD12LGCY on the same hardware last year and now tried to re-install after I trashed that drive with our FDISK test during the last online meeting...
I guess it would help if the installer checks if
it can access the CD and if not, warns people to
expect trouble later in the process.
Bingo.

As long as you boot from the virtual floppy, it
would be expected that the El Torito style CD/DVD
driver still works, but may require some boot menu
choices to be activated?

Well, it boots of the CD, so it isn't an issue with being only able to run the newer CD boot style...

If I am getting stumped by this, just imagine how put off inexperienced folks are that are trying to install FreeDOS...

Ralf
