Just an update to my network adapter issue. I gave up on it and moved on to serial communications. I simply needed to be able to transfer files back and forth between my Windows 10 laptop and my FreeDos machine. I am successfully doing that using Kermit 3.14 on FreeDos and Kermit 95 on Windows 10. Not as fast as I would like, but it works.
