Hey everyone! A little update. The FreeDOS system is up and running flawlessly! i'm impressed and I like FreeDOS a lot! Unfortunately the floppy disk we have is just a Fix/Update disk for the original programme, but I tested it and it runs perfect and delivers all the files in the correct directories, so the compatibility lokks good. What I miss is the original installation floppy disk, that I bet is somewhere in a drawer at corporate (we are a small laboratory that got the metal analyzer from a big company). With luck we can recover it from the previuos owners. Luck ran out on me when I found out that the floppy drive on the IBM PS2 is malfunctioning, I'll try to clean it and put it back to work but I think the chances are small. If anyone knows a method to recover data from the HD of the PS2 (that is proprietary and cannot be mounted anywhere else) I accept any advice.
Thanks anyone, for now I am waiting for the dreaded floppy disks and for a way to recover data from the PS2. at the moment if it stops working we are with the machine out of order (hope not 😕 ) I'll ask if I need help again. Also, keyboard, mouse and VGA graphics should still be supported by the BIOS of modern PC, with some luck even the hardware level PS/2 and VGA access, although that might internally be based on a simulation run by the BIOS, for example for USB keyboard or mouse. This can affect reaction speeds. I would avoid additional PCI I/O cards if possible.
