I have one. They do die by themselves. Mine had a component failure on the motherboard that led to overheating. If I wanted to boot it, I had to have the top open with a fan blowing directly on the motherboard to keep it cool enough to run. I keep it around because at some point I need to try to get stuff off the two 20MB Seagate ST-225 MFM hard drives. It does not have a network card (and good luck finding one for an XT class machine), so I'm looking at a cable to the serial or parallel port for connectivity.
