Here is my suggestion: Make sure that your VBox network settings are correct. I remember that when I was using a linux vbox, I had to set the proper Network card/settings outside the VM; in other words, in the VirtualBox application itself. So, in the network tab, play around with your settings there, and restart the VM. I remember that sometimes, the network card address provided by the VM was not properly accepted by the network, so make sure you reset that MAC address a few times.
