Hi Andreas, > I have an ASUS EeePC 901 with an older SSD, that now has its internal 4G > partition (first flash drive) used for FreeDOS. As far as I remember, the EeePC has a somehow small and widescreen display but does run 4:3 resolutions okay for DOS? For example if your display is 1024x600, you can run DOS games at 640x480 and at 800x600. Maybe you can also run 1024x768 and then have the lower part cut off. I do not remember whether and how well the display zooms in when you use a low resolution and how things work with an external VGA display (if that is interesting for you). As for the sound, I think the EeePC has AC97 compatible sound output, so it does not have FM / OPL3 / Adlib and you would have to simulate it if games need it. There once was the VSB virtual soundblaster DOS project (not SB Pro / SB2 / SB16) and in theory you can write some simulation as for example a JLM driver plug-in for JEMM386/JEMMEX, but maybe it would be easier to run your games in DOSEMU in Linux. Different to DOSBOX, you get the full speed of your CPU in DOSEMU, only the VGA and soundcard are simulated and cost speed... I would suggest using ALSA and X (X.org, XFree86) as drivers for the real hardware, then running xdosemu in a window in any default Linux. I would be interested to hear more about how well FreeDOS works on your EeePC, I only had a quick look when somebody at a meeting let me boot FreeDOS on my USB stick for a few experiments on his EeePC. In general, I found the computer very SMALL but it worked okay-ish. Cheers, Eric PS: If your display stretches lower resolutions to full screen but does not adjust the aspect ratio, 720x400 and 320x200 are also more wide than the common 4:3 resolutions, nice for text and MCGA games. You can use MODE to do some smaller tuning or other tools for more. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ EditLive Enterprise is the world's most technically advanced content authoring tool.
