in fact, it works so well in Linux/Unix because the whole system was 
designed for it to work.

in DOS you most of the time cannot the make program that you want. Keep 
in mind that each dos program is a work of craftmanship and has it's own 
way.

I nLinux I usualy open Kdevelop, create a Hello world and it runs. At 
this point I may have generated 100 files, most of them you will have to 
study a lot just to know what it is... but "make" works :)
