Hi!

Compression seems to be low priority - such a driver was meant
more as a fun gimmick than as a cool feature in the first place,
so I would say 1.1 will come when Geraldo and others are done
with packaging ZIPs of the many updated packages, without trying
to add compression first and without waiting for compression...
You can see the compression idea as separate from the 1.1 distro.

That said, if you want to help putting updated packages into ZIP
files, please let Geraldo and me know :-). Many DOS programs got
updated since 1.0, as you can see on freedos.org => software. We
want to collect and zip the new versions so we can make 1.1 :-).

Of course. You can say ALL versions of DOS (MS, PC, DR, EDR, PTS,
ROM, Free and whatever-else-DOS) use the same FAT12 and FAT16. Those
which support FAT32 also use the same FAT32 :-). However, if there
is compression, it usually differs between DOS versions.

Not that I know. You can use NTFS4DOS (free for personal use in the
Avira version) but we cannot bundle it with our CDROM so you have to
download it yourself. On the BTTR forum, some people wondered whether
OS/2 HPFS would be a nice addition for EDR-DOS and others: It seems
to have better performance but similar limitations to FAT, and most
of the HPFS patents have already expired or will expire soonish :-).

Do you have further suggestions for file system support?

Eric

PS: You can also use LTOOLS to access ext2fs and maybe ext3fs drives.
In any case, you should not access drives of another OS while it is
hibernating / sleeping (suspend to disk) - only after full shutdown.
