Hi all, I created an initial version of a FreeDOS 1.0 install howto, including a list of known problems and workarounds. The text is partially based on the FreeDOS beta install howto. Because the SF Wiki can be slow, I created a static copy on my homepage:
http://www.coli.uni-saarland.de/~eric/FdDocEn-FdInstall.html (still interesting: 14k of Wiki text make a whole 31k of HTML) The editable Wiki page can be found at: http://fd-doc.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?n=FdDocEn.FdInstall I recommend to announce changes on the list or at least email me about them, so I can update my static copy accordingly. Layout fixes and sectioning improvements are welcome, too. The static copy can also be added to our download area on ibiblio or on freedos.org - as long as it is hard to miss the page, any place will do :-). Please check both the install instructions and the known bugs list. If you have a second PC to test on, do a real install and add your experiences to the "Installing on a PC" section. As I cannot install and edit the Wiki at the same time, I just described everything before and after you boot the install cdrom and work with it (partitioning, formatting, boot menu), but not the install cdrom workings themselves. However, they are pretty self-explanatory, driven by interactive menus, so in my opinion you still can get started with the incomplete "Installing on a PC" descriptions already :-). Thanks, and enjoy :-) Eric PS: If there are any post-1.0 updates to packages, those should be listed on this page as well, and there should be a directory "updates" in the ibiblio download area :-) PPS: I suggest to continue the discussion on freedos-user, not on freedos-devel. For those who are only on -devel, I send a copy of this first mail to that list as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
