I think that's a shame; newsgroups have wider reach, they are also a 
tradition for any type of programming, especially open source. The NNTP 
protocol is an excellent way of participating in discussions and only 
having to download the actual message you want to look at (less 
bandwidth) and you can also mark thread/message as "read".

There's also the advantage that the posts are automatically archived and 
search-able by Google in a more powerful interface than they have on 
source forge.
