That shows that the error is not be looked for in HIMEM. > Disk I/O will always run slower under virtual 8086 mode, present and active > by definition with EMM386. HIMEM has nothing to do with it, and that > entire topic should be removed from the discussion as irrelevant. Memory > managers should not enjoy inaccurate benchmarks by piggybacking them off > the actual benefits of other utilities -- UMBPCI in this case. O.K. Then let us forget the benchmarking. I had a try on some other PCs that morning. I discovered that EMM386 works much better than I expected. I did use HIMEM/EMM386 until let's say the middle of last year. At this time I felt it would be better to use Jack's and Uwe's files because I really was frustrated about EMM386 crashing the whole machine very often when loading other device drivers in UMB. But today it wasn't like this, I must say The only thing I discovered so far is, that EMM386 has got problems with the Microsoft network client. On many machines everything worked fine and till now I only discovered a Pentium 4 2,8 GHz with onboard Intel Pro 1000 ethernet card were the network client stops responding while trying to get an ip address over DHCP.
