Yes, there seems to be disparity among PC and data-stick vendors. I'd be interested to know what make/model/BIOS/stick you are seeing this slow behavior on?
I've been testing Dell client/server GX270/GX280 and PE2850 (Intel chipset) using their supplied USB 2.0 128Mb data-stick and it seems very fast...
