Hi,

I'm having problems installing FreeDos 0.9 sr1 and any hints or help would be greatly appreciated.

Install method:

 (a) iso on FAT (not FAT32) C:\ (which already contains a fresh install of Windows 98 SE) + FreeDos boot floppy.

 (b) files from iso in C:\fsbootcd\freedos\ and C:\fsbootcd\isolinux\ + FreeDOS boot floppy.

 I could boot from the CD directly but the CD-ROM in the target machine won't read the ISO (even in WIn98).

 Both (a) and (b) use the chain to kernel option. If this is not chosen, then I get invalid opcode errors.

 If I had network access in DOS, I could read from another CD or DVD player. I can also use a Win98 boot disk to get CD support in DOS.

Install:

    Metakern.sys written to C:\ okay.
    Scan finds no MemDisk.
    Error: "FreeCOM: XMSSwap-In: Memory allocation error.
    Cannot terminate permanent FreeCOM instance.
    System halted ... reboot or power off now."

System:

    AMD K6 200MHz
    64M RAM
    2 Gig C drive (FAT, not FAT32) with Windows 98 SE
    Connected to a network in Win98.

 MS DOS Config.sys contains:
    Files=100
    Device=C:\Windows\Himem.sys
    Device=C:\Windows\EMM386.sys
    DOS=HIGH,UMB

In MS DOS, Mem reports free extended (XMS) memory as 64,516K; EMM386 using a little XMS.

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance (i'm a new convert to DOS).
Apologies if I've inadvertently sent this message twice.

Eric T.
