About SoundBlaster: VIA AC97 with SB16 emulation mode sometimes breaks network drivers for DOS when you enable it. Just in case... The AC97 part can stay enabled, though.
http://freedos.sourceforge.net/freecom/packages/082pl3/ xmsswap zip is probably the best suited FreeCOM, although http://freedos.sourceforge.net/freecom/packages/TESTING/com082pl3ak/ might become 0.82pl4 eventually.
