Hi fellas,

I'm new to FreeDOS and have a few questions...

1: How can I go about connecting to the Internet from FreeDOS? Do I need a
DOS-compatible driver from the modem manufacturer (Conexant) or does FreeDOS
come with a generic driver that might work? What kind of apps will I need?
Basically all I am interested in using is http (browser), ftp and irc. I'm
running FreeDOS beta9 rc3.

2: Is it possible to connect to an ftp server with a DOS ftp client, and do
other things in DOS while downloading stuff via ftp? I realize that FreeDOS
is supposed to be 100% compatible with MS-DOS, and the latter did not have
'real' multi-tasking, so I am assuming there is no way to do this? I would
think that some sort of TSR ftp client would eat a nice chunk of memory...

This last part may be considered spam by some people's standards as it is
off-topic, but I wanted to express my gratitude and admiration to all the
hard-working developers of FreeDOS and FreeDOS-running applications
collectively. The work you are doing is brilliant, and I am fascinated by
the enthusiasm with which you approach developing, debugging, fixing and
improving the operating system and the accompanying applications.

I am also pleased to see that your focus has been on building an
MS-DOS-compatible open source operating system, that is, compatible with the
popular old DOS and perhaps building on that, as opposed to immediately
trying to build just a "better" DOS, with support for every hardware
standard there is out there today. I feel that you are correct in first
building the foundation and then taking it from there.

Thanks for your hard work. The cheers from the crowd may be few and far
apart, but they're there.
