Yeah, I think switching into graphics mode to display a splash screen for the 
text mode installer could be a little jarring or even confusing. 

It would be possible to do an ascii art splash screen. But, I don’t think I 
like that idea either.

Overall, I think most users would be happier to just go straight into the 
installer. 

That being said, I did realize that someone who may issue a customized release 
may have their heart set on displaying a custom message, logo or splash screen 
before the installer displays its welcome or Language selection screens. 

So, support was built in to ease integration and maintain stability.
