That sounds like something internal to Plinth - I don't recall such discussion ever occuring on this list, at least. I can imagine a potential need for a fixed domain e.g. for TLS, but that should ideally be driven only by such need (when/if it emerge - no need for arguing now that DNS is evil!), not by middleware like Plinth.
