I am a great fan of the freedombox project but am working on my own (cerowrt), which is more focused on the bufferbloat problem than anything else. It had been so long since I booted my openrd that I ended up giving it away.... However: Cerowrt does adhoc mesh networking out of the box using ahcp and the babel routing protocol over ipv6 and ipv4. I wouldn't mind at all if freedombox added this capability, too. (another interesting mesh protocol is batman-adv) And further off topic: What kernel are you on?
