Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18688 (project freeciv):
Workaround: install CompizConfig Settings Manager and enter the submenu for
General Options (click on the icon or caption) and change Ping Delay. I have
set mine to 30000ms to mitigate just this problem with Freeciv.
