Well, I've made a little progress - patch #2838 works after a nearly trivial
fix - adding
memset(&hints, 0, sizeof(hints));
right under
fc_snprintf(servname, sizeof(servname), "%d", port);
But patch #2933 still results in "bind failed" message from the server.
