Thanks for test case. It was/is very useful.
- Do not do map_free() & map_init() between attempts as it loses settings we
cannot afford to lose. Free and allocate only those resources one really needs
to. This is bugprune part, and thus I dropped S2_2 version.
- Removed assert that would with "-F" cause program to terminate when it
should continue to map generation retry
