Now, with the latest release of x11-wm/xfce4-desktop (4.10.1), wallpapers searched for in /usr/local/share/backgrounds/xfce/ and like Xfce <= 4.8 /usr/local/share/xfce4/backdrops/ this is new with this release. If no wallpaper was specified, of course. Your description seems, that you still have wallpaper dealt with previous release of Xfce (before 4.10). With Xfce 4.10 there's **one** wallpaper (blue and Xfce logo in middle). You can see your last wallpaper with this command xfconf-query -cl xfce4-desktop Select property (for example) xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -p /backdrop/screen0/monitor0/last-image xfdesktop was tested with custom and default (without modification) session, wallpaper displayed fine. > > By messing around with it, I somehow broke my entire xfdesktop, and now > there is just a gray background with no desktop icons, and the logout button > does not log out. If you have log somewhere (in your $HOME, or /var/log directory), it's better. > > This problem seems familiar, but I can't recall how to fix it.
