I haven't been able to get the adapter to show in my ifconfig list once, unlucky. I reached out to Ulrich Spörlein, who has the exact some model of laptop as me, the Lenovo T490, and for him wifi works just fine. So it must be a race condition between loading Linux once and afterwards continuing with FreeBSD.
