Hmmm....  Well, i have had:

IWN_DEBUG=1
IEEE80211_DEBUG=1

in /etc/src.conf for quite some time; looking through /sys/dev/iwn, the
only places I see the "word" IWN_DEBUG are:

./if_iwn_debug.h:28:#ifdef      IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:175:#ifdef   IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:350:#ifdef   IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:428:#ifdef   IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:1320:#ifdef  IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:2254:#ifdef IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:2265:#ifdef IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:3920:#ifdef IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:3946:#ifdef  IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:4144:#ifdef  IWN_DEBUG
./if_iwn.c:8948:#ifdef  IWN_DEBUG
g1-215(11.1-S)[9]

[Yes, I was running stable/11 at the time I did the "grep", but
looking in the head sources, and the controller panics described
were while running head.]

So I'm happy to try more things, but I'll need a bigger hint; sorry.

Peace,
david
