ZFS On Mac OSX creates zfs v6 pools by default (in order to retain compat with the stock read-only zfs v6 module in 10.5) which work fine with FreeBSD. Just don't upgrade the pool on OS-X after creating it.

It seems there is no such way; what is worse, it also seems there's no way to create a pool with lower pool version.
