I guess you're trying to use a sendmail compiled with SMTP AUTH support. I have the same problem here. Even though libldap-2.2.so.7 and liblber-2.2.so.7 are in /usr/local/lib and cc has a -L/usr/local/lib flag, ld doesn't find them.
