However, I always start and stop it from the script it installs in /usr/local/etc/rc.d. (It installs cups.sh.sample, I believe, you have to rename it, then it can be started with /usr/local/etc/rc.d/cups.sh start |stop| restart. Also, I believe you have to type the full path to the shell, regardless of where you are on the system, but I haven't tested that in a long time.)
