I tried installing FBSD 5.3 release on it, but I received the following error while booting:
ata1-master: FAILURE - ATAPI_IDENTIFY timed out ata1-master: FAILURE - ATAPI_IDENTIFY timed out ata1-master: FAILURE - SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE timed out
For what it is worth, I had the exact same problem last week on a new 1u supermicro with dual Xeon and 6Gb ram.
Fortunately, I was just testing the install there, it was to become a Linux box. :)
