For a long while now (since 4.4), I have experienced random reboots while compiling large things (such as world). I always attributed it to bad ram, but i just put a stick of brand new crucial in today, and decided to do some major i/o testing. It ran ok for a while, and then spontaneously rebooted.
On my Fbsd 4.6.1-R-p7 box with 384mb ram, k62-400, via mvp3 chipset, I was compiling a kernel and mod-php4 at the same time. The kernel panic'd with a 'panic: (something): CMAP Busy' I didn't notice the panic until just when it was going to reboot, so I don't know what the (something) was. I looked at some mailng list archives and found a closed PR from 3.0-R regarding this. It is difficult for me to notice the panic(s) because I usually remotely admin the box; it just happened that I was doing this onsite and had access to the console. I don't know how to trace a kernel, but if someone would like more information, feel free to contact me about doing this; it would be nice to know if I should submit a PR at this point. Also please CC: me as I am not subscribed to -stable Thanks. pete -- Peter C.
