Linux has been providing this for years (if not forever), and it really
would be nice to be able to use the Wine port and other software, which
is especially relevant for non-technical users, without having to build a
custom kernel.

(In fact, does it even make sense to have this as an option and not just
provide this functionality unconditionally?)
