Just sharing my experience. I have the above IRST setup on my Thinkpad x230 since last year with FreeBSD 12.0/12.1, and it works beautifully! It is nice because I no longer have to make sure to have enough battery when putting the laptop on S3, because after a configurable time in the it will save everything to the irst parition and shuts down.
