According to Stefan Bethke:

Not sure, I max'ed it to 200000 and the machine has not locked up since.  Try 
that, 300000 if not and so on.  The thing is, receiving snapshots is going to 
generate a lot of inodes/directories so vnodes shortage may be your problem.
