Only if I enable the device it can not boot. If I boot with the inserted em0 interface and the change in the rc.conf file the em0 into bge0 and do a /etc/netstart, the systems hangs, only a power cycle can reclaim the server. I have installed FreeBSD 9.0Current on the machine and here it works fine I saw a commit from Bjoern A. Zeeb which describe the hang, but do not know if this can be reverted back to 8.x before the release. svn commit: r198049 - head/sys/dev/bge Bjoern A.
