Try the man page for 'shutdown'. # shutdown -h now will cause a controlled shutdown finishing with a message to "press any key to reboot". At this stage you can switch off. If your computer supports programmed power off then you can also use: # shutdown -p now which will end with powering down your machine. > I remember many computers in bygone years which had this problem.
