/usr/ports/Updating - I followed the instructions there when I upgraded my 5.2.1-RELEASE system to 5.3 & it worked like a charm. Do make sure you read 20040723 & that you have device io in your kernel. Oh, and be sure to read the 20041229 entry if you install the latest kde.
