it should compile cleanly if you've set up the required java magic first. At least that seems to be what trips up most people who try to build openoffice from ports. Fortunately precompiled recent packages are available from http://oootranslation.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/ooomisc/FreeBSD/ - in several language versions, too (i grabbed the _nb version which looks to be quite functional so far).
