presumably all the nameserver is doing is forwarding requests to your ISP, as set in the named.boot file? also I guess you're running bind in which case it will cache automatically.

probably best to just have it running on the gateway then it will cache requests from all clients. have the clients point to the gw as the nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf.

Named is running, but how can I be sure the caching is working?

Also, does it make sense to do this on each box, or just the gateway?
