I am trying to install a printer on my machine. It has a USB connector. With
dmesg I can see that the printer has been detected as

ulpt0: Olivetti Job_Jet M400, rev 2.00/1.00, addr 2, iclass 7/1
ulpt0: using bi-directional mode

How can I test the printer?

I tried lptest but it printed garbages.

According to the Olivetti UK web page

http://www.olivettitecnost.co.uk

the M400 understands PCL3. Find a sample PostScript document and try rendering it with GhostScript and sending to the printer:

gs -sDEVICE=pcl3 myfile.ps > /dev/ulpt0
