You cannot "merge" the new disk into your current /usr partition, but you could mount the disk somewhere on /usr, such as /usr/home, or some other place where you expect the majority of data will be going. You could also use dump/restore to dump your current /usr partition to your new disk and then alter /etc/fstab to mount the new disk at /usr instead of the old partition.
