Perhaps ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-amd64/5.2.1/ will work better for you.
I had the same with -amd64 my i386 workstation didn't bootup anymore so i needed to use the AMD64 version, that works :-)
