Hi,man hostname(1):
I would like to change the hostname of one of my machines without a reboot. Is it enough to change my rc.conf and run the /etc/netstart script or do I have to do something else?
NAME hostname -- set or print name of current host system
SYNOPSIS hostname [-s] [name-of-host]
a simple
# hostname new.host.name
should do what you're asking. also add it to rc.conf so the changes stay on next reboot
