How can I turn off machine completely? cause it waits for CTRL+D of root pass..
Alternatively, and only if you have support for apm or acpi in your kernel and a compatible motherboard, you can type:
# shutdown -p now
which does exactly the same as 'shutdown -h' but goes on to power down
the system automatically. This is safe to use if your system doesn't
have the appropriate support -- it just halts the system but fails to
either power down or (I think) tell you that the system is down.
You think correctly, according to my experience. A box (running 5.X) that doesn't support apm/apci simply acts as if you called "-h" instead of "-p". A Good Thing.
