I've found the easiest way to deal with digital cameras is to buy the appropriate USB flash memory adapter. They typically have an MSRP around $20.00 US. I also have a PCMCIA smartmedia adapter for my laptop that I bought about three year ago when Linux support for USB was iffy at best.
