Hi. Go to http://people.freebsd.org/~picobsd/picobsd.html and download the BootFORTH demo (floppy image) (Direct link: http://www.freebsd.org/~picobsd/bootldr.bin )
Copy it to a floppy (using dd(1)) and you have a boot floppy that you can mount (it has a ufs filesystem) and customize. You can also create a bootable floppy manually by following the instructions in The Handbook, but the picobsd floppy image is a great starting point for this kind of thing.
