Absolutely. I believe Hiten Pandya managed to get a commit bit *before* going up to University. Or very shortly after. The way to become a committer is exactly the same for everybody: submit high quality PRs with patches and enhancements to FreeBSD. Keep doing so, until you have established a history and reputation as a good programmer / documentation writer / software porter or whatever. Eventually you will be punished for your temerity by the award of a commit bit.
