You used an invalid command: cd ../../compile/NEWKERN Not CD ../ ../compile/NEWKERN > 2. could not change permissions for etc/fstab also.Can no longer write to file. You probably made a similar mistake there. However, a better question might be why you are trying to change permissions on /etc/fstab in the first place. Kris
