I thought the BSD daemon (logo) has been around for many years in the past.
It's a movie reference ("Die Hard").
The Beastie logo is still there, in the /boot directory, if you want it.
Or the standard "orb", by setting it in /boot/loader.conf:
loader_logo="orb"
