My understanding is:
8.*
base - gcc
ports - gcc
9.0 (and possibly 9.*)
base - gcc
ports - clang (with the caveat some ports need either any gcc
or a specific version)
CURRENT
base - as of this writing, clang (look for announcement in
current@ or hackers@)
ports - clang, as above though with a shorter list
(Someone please correct me if they have more accurate
information.)
