Actually, that looks like a useful use of cat, whose original purpose it is to concatenate the contents of two files. `cat /boot/boot1 /boot/boot2` concatenates the contents of two files, so that the resulting single text stream can be treated as a file to be compared by diff to `/boot/boot`. -- Chad Perrin [ original content licensed OWL: http://owl.apotheon.org ]
